Maharashtra Judicial Services Exam | Syllabus, Eligibility, Pattern and Application

Maharashtra Judicial Services Exam is organised by Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) for the recruitment of Civil Judge junior Division candidates. The Maharashtra Judicial Service written examination can be used to choose qualifying applicants for Civil Judge.

Frequency and Vacancy

It is determined by the number of vacancies estimated by the Maharashtra High Court. There are years when the test isn’t even conducted because there isn’t a vacancy. Leading to a shortage of vacancies, the test was only held twice in the last five years. The preliminary exam will take place in the month of June. The application fee of the Maharashtra Judiciary Exam for the General category is Rs. 374 and for SC/ST/ESM category, it is Rs.274.

Eligibility

Educational Qualification:

  1. The candidate must have a degree in law (graduation) from any of the recognized Indian law universities.
  2. Candidates who are assistant law officers or superintendents or translators of the law department of government or civil/criminal court sub-ordinates to the High Court or ministerial officers in the High Court can also apply, provided they fulfil certain criteria. The candidates must be –
  1. Less than or 39 years of age as per the date provided in the notification.
  2. Have a graduate degree from a recognized law university.
  3. He/she has done service that qualifies under the Maharashtra Civil Service (Pension) Rules, 1992 in the Law department, or any criminal or civil court sub-ordinates to the High Court or the High Court for at least seven years on the last date of submitting the application form online.
  4. Has a recommendation from the respective authorities of appointment.

Age Limit – Maximum age is 35 years old as of July 2021. The maximum age limit for candidates under the Scheduled Tribe, Scheduled Castes, women, and SEBC is extended for three years.

Mode of Application

Aspirants must check out the eligibility criteria before proceeding to fill up the application form of the Maharashtra judiciary. The application form must be submitted online mode. The official website is http://opsconline.gov.in/. The form must be submitted online, and submission via any other modes will be rejected.

Stages of Examination

The MJS MPSC Exam is conducted in three parts – preliminary examination, main examination, and viva voce.

1. Preliminary Examination

The Online Preliminary Examination consists of 100 multiple choice questions for 100 marks and the duration of the exam is 2 hours. The assessment is conducted in the English language. As per the Judiciary Exam Pattern, the exam comprises a single section on legislative law. There is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.

2. Mains Examination

Only those candidates will be called for the Main Examination (Written Examination) who obtain such minimum marks as may be fixed by the Commission for the purpose on the basis of the preliminary exam.

The mains exam is of descriptive type and it has 2 question papers of 100 marks each. The exam duration of each paper is 3 hours. The mains exam will be conducted in Marathi and the English language.
